There is just something incredibly hopeful about planting peas. Every year, just as soon as the ground is thawed, I plant peas. It is usually around St. Patrick’s Day that my precious seeds go into the ground, even though we are still technically in the winter season. Mine got planted last Thursday. It always snows on my poor little seeds (it snowed 4″ yesterday), but they remain snug in their little seed beds awaiting the proper moment to poke their little leaves through the ground. They get snowed on, they get frosted and frozen, but yet, they survive! Then the snow all melts and the peas really take off. You can almost see them grow before your very eyes!
Peas… my harbinger of hope that spring will indeed come again!

Happy gardening, Kitty. Perhaps this fall, I will grow a veggie garden again.
